What’s this blog about?

Firstly, a little about myself. I’m a game developer working for High Impact Games. Unlike some people in the industry who lost interest in video games once they started work, or others who see video game development as just a job, I love video games. I love game development. I love this nascent medium. If film was the new medium for the 20th century, then video games are the new medium for the 21st century. Video game development is still in its infancy compared to other art forms, and we the current game developers can be the D.W. Griffiths (hopefully, we won’t share his blatant racism, although Native Americans have complained about their portrayal in Neversoft’s Gun, so maybe in years to come, that will be viewed similarly), and the John Fords that push the medium forward. This is an exciting time to be in the industry. We are almost to the point where the general public accepts video games as an art form. Hopefully this blog will document the metamorphosis of this caterpillar-like industry into a butterfly. Maybe I’m a dreamer, but hopefully, through this blog and my work, I can help shape this industry for the better. I would like to help create the game equivalent of Citizen Kane that gives everyone a glimpse of what can be accomplished by interactive entertainment. This blog is my thoughts on game development: what works, what doesn’t and how we can get closer to achieving our Citizen Kane.

Glad to see that you are still passionate about video games. I have to share that I believe in the same passion as you do when it comes to video games, and I have only enjoyed them more since getting into the industry as well. We lost touch after UofM, but I came across this blog on gamasutra, and couldn’t resist saying hello.
